Fabricated by J.W. Fiske, the “Old Main” fountain was given to Shippensburg University as a class gift by the graduating class of 1896. Kreilick Conservation, LLC was selected to restore the fountain. Kreilick teamed up with Robinson Iron Company, OuterSpaces, and Keystone Preservation Group to return the fountain to its original appearance.

After complete disassembly of the fountain, an upgraded masonry pool was poured in the original fountain footprint, with integrated plumbing, drainage, and electrical conduit. The iron portions of the fountain underwent three months of cleaning and coating in the restoration facility before being returned to the University for assembly. Damaged or corroded iron was fully repaired, and the fountain was restored to the original color scheme. An upgraded, automated water pump and purifying filter system was designed and installed, reducing the need for harmful chlorine treatments. This project won a Construction Project Award from Preservation Pennsylvania in 2013.
