Harry Bertoia’s 1967 fountain, Free Interpretation of Plant Forms, is made of copper tubing brazed together and formed into undulating wave-like shapes. The fountain stands 11 feet tall, projecting outward 18 feet by 12 feet and weighs 8,000 pounds. The fountain had been in storage since 2000 when the building at its previous site, the Philadelphia Civic Center, was demolished.

In January 2016, Kreilick Conservation, LLC was contracted to oversee the fountain’s relocation to its new location at the Woodmere Art Museum. The scope of work included providing research and recommendations for the rigging of the piece, oversight of the removal, transport and reinstallation of the piece, and conservation treatment in-situ once installed. The sculpture was pressure washed, and splits and losses in the metal were repaired. Once new plumbing and lighting was installed and the site was landscaped (by others), the fountain was returned to active use for the first time in 16 years.
